Off Season Racing

aka Frost Biter’s

For the die hard racing enthusiast Holmeshole members continue to race before and after the regular season. The races are even less formal than our summer events. Any and all are welcome.

Fall racing schedule and procedures

Races will be held every Thursday and Sunday, until the weather turns, maybe into the first week or two of November. Phil will watch the weather and schedule races with the weather, wind, sunlight, and temperature as the guide. But assume there will be a race until Sunday November 11th.

Courses

Races on Thursday will have a 5:15 p.m. start. The course will be A.B.C. (#6, #4,#23A) or reverse. Start times will get early as the days get shorter.

Sunday races will have a noon start and the courses will be either the ABC or maybe course #2 and maybe reverse, depending on the weather, current etc.

Under Harry’s direction the Shipyard has moved two moorings off the V.H.Y.C. into location to make two permanent starting lines. One for a start to #4 and one for a start to #23A. If the race is to #4 start between the mooring with the red float and #6 if the start is to #23 A, start between the mooring with the green float and #6. If someone wants to provide a small red and green flag, Phil will put it on the float of the respective mooring.

The starting sequence will be a rapid blast or a horn at 6 minutes before the start and the single horn at 5 minutes before the start and a single blast at the start.

When you finish the race, you should blast a horn. Your time will be taken by Phil who will either be waiting at the finish or right behind you. Mike Wilson has offered to take time from the shore as well; so we may have some variety in who is recording. The times will be e-mailed to Harry in Vermont and after producing the results he will e-mail them back.

Most likely Phil will be putting a Shipyard skiff on the mooring to mark the starting line for the given race. He may rig and unrig his boat from that mooring.
