Appendix A — The Low-Point Scoring System
A1:A2 Number of Races and Series Scores
The number of races scheduled and the number required to constitute a series shall be stated in the mailing instructions. Each boat's series score will be the total of her race scores, discarding her 4 worst scores except when prohibited in rule 88.3b. The lowest series score wins.
A:4 Races Scores
Each boat starting and finishing in a race, and not thereafter retiring or being disqualified, will be scored points as follows:
| Finishing place | Low Point System |
|---|---|
| First | 1 |
| Second | 2 |
| Third | 3 |
| Fourth | 4 |
| Each place thereafter | Add 1 point |
Boats that came to the starting area but did not start (DNS), did not finish (DNF), retired (RET) or disqualified (DSQ) will be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of all boats that came to the starting area.
Boats that did not come to the starting area (DNC) will be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats entered in the series.
Race Committee Duty
A boat that does not race, because the skipper or crew volunteers for Race Committee duty may discard that race as one of her 4 worst scores. A boat in contention for the season’s series must serve on the Race Committee once each summer.
